GEGENÜBER
(GER, 2007, 100 min)
D: Jan Bonny

A conversation with Jan Bonny about his debut film GEGENÜBER.

SYNOPSIS
Always calm and thoughtful, Georg is a policeman appreciated by all his colleagues. His younger partner Michael also admires Georg for the harmony he seems to enjoy in his relationship with Anne, an attractive schoolteacher. But as Georg rises through the ranks, he loses more and more control over the carefully maintained facade of his “intact” family life. Gradually, the conflicts that have punctuated Anne and Georg’s existence for years filter outwards: Anne’s desperate fight for recognition, and the traces of domestic violence, now impossible to conceal ... Under the Christmas tree, tragedy sets in “‘But it’s not a tragedy, Anne!’” Yes, it is.
