A conversation with Ulrich Köhler about his debut film BUNGALOW.

SYNOPSIS
A 19-year-old recruit runs away from the troops on his way back from a maneuver and hides out in his parents' bungalow in the Hessian province. Tired and lethargic, he meets relatives and friends until he finally appears to volunteer to face the military police.

ABOUT
Ulrich Köhler was born in 1969 in Marburg, Germany. He grew up in Zaire, where his parents worked as development aid workers. Köhler studied art in Quimper, France (1989–1991) and then philosophy and visual communication at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. After graduating, he made several short films, his first feature film BUNGALOW was shown in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival in 2002. His feature film SCHLAFKRANKHEIT was awarded the Berlinale’s Silver Bear (Best Director) in 2011. His films are classified as belonging to the “Berlin School”.
